Next year, we’ll see Mercedes-Benz presenting their updated ML-Class and GL-Class with refreshed looks inside and out, and new names.
The facelifted ML-Class will be known as the GLE, while the longer and more spacious GL-Class that we spied here will become the GLS, supposedly to denote its more upmarket positioning as the S-Class of SUVs.
The latter won’t really hold true as the GLS is essentially a boxier-bodied GLE with an extra row of seats to accommodate a total of seven passengers.
What the facelift brings is a new fascia with redesigned headlamps, bumpers and grille, while at the back, Mercedes will give the large SUV new tail lamp graphics and a reworked bumper with flush tailpipes.
On the inside, we’ll see the GLS (just like the GLE) adopting the revised dashboard of the GLE Coupe with new trim and material upgrades, and a larger, standalone central infotainment screen featuring the latest generation of Benz’s Comand infotainment system.
Under the hood, Mercedes will likely tweak most of the existing engines to improve emissions and economy figures, while adding its new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with around 330hp and possibly, a new plug-in hybrid variant to the range.
