You can neither blame the cyclist or the deer that jumped in front of him in this instance. It’s simply a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and doing 28 mph / 45 km/h while you’re at it.
The video posted below shows Silas Patlove descending on his bike, on a moderately steep stretch of Alexander Avenue heading towards Sausalito, California. He says had it not been for his helmet, he would have probably fared much worse.
Even with the helmet, he says he still suffered “a mild concussion with a bit of memory loss.” He was thankful, though, that people immediately stopped to assist him, so had he been in even worse shape, they could have provided extra assistance.
