BMW has officially become the world’s first auto manufacturer to offer an in-vehicle store. US customers can now make purchases through their ConnectedDrive system, buying different services and apps for multiple purposes.
Other sales channels will be available through dealerships or via BMW Assist call center. Either way, if you’re looking for an in-car purchase, the Bavarian manufacturer has you covered.
At launch, browsing through the ConnectedDrive store will reveal apps such as Concierge, which provides practical information and advice, helping you find different locations such as theatres, restaurants or hotels. Afterwards the address can be sent directly into the car’s navigation system.
Concierge can also provide emergency calling on your behalf if you do not have access to a cell phone. Other available features include Navigation Map Updates as well as Internet service which drivers can access via their iDrive Controller.
When drivers log into the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, they will be presented with an overview of the available services and apps, which they can either purchase or, if previously booked for their BMW, use directly. Once selected and paid for, a service or app can be used within minutes.
Not exactly as quick as we’re used to in our App Store or Google Play Store, but still great thinking from BMW.
