Words don’t do Ken Block’s Gymkhana Mustang justice – calling it mad, loony or just plain daft wouldn’t be enough. Trying to find some that fit it, it’s probably one of the most spectacular cars to watch ever, but up until now we didn’t get to have that good a look at what makes it tick.
Well now we have, courtesy of explanations from Chris Harris. In the Hoonigans video posted below, he takes a detailed (static) look at the car, peeling away its body to reveal its chassis and unique inboard suspension setup – it’s part of what makes the car so great, in that it has plenty of travel and allows for some movement, amplifying the sensation that it’s traveling very fast.
The V8 engine is naturally aspirated and makes 845 hp. Its closest equivalent would be a NASCAR engine, in terms of design, power and loudness. The engine too is very spectacular to listen to – if the word “savage” was ever used to describe an engine note, it would have to be used here.
There’s a lot more to talk about, but we’ll let Chris Harris take over after the virtual jump.
