What’s in a name? As far as Chrysler is concerned, a history of 89 years since Walter P Chrysler founded the company that bore his name. Well, that name is no more as the automaker will, from now on, be known as FCA US LLC.
Parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA) stated that the change “does not affect the company’s Auburn Hills, Michigan headquarters, its holdings, management team, board or brands”.
It added that the automaker previously known as Chrysler “remains proud of its joint history”, referring both to the renamed US automaker as well as “the rich Fiat heritage that dates from 1899”.
FCA US head of digital media Ed Garsten commented that the name change is part of the changes planned since October, when FCA N.V. was created. “When you think about it, when someone changes their name from Smith to Jones for personal or professional reasons, they’re still the same person”, he said. “The change just makes sense for them. In that vein, our commitment to quality, style, performance and service hasn’t changed, we just have a new name to reflect our role in a new company, and that makes sense.”
Apparently the Stars and Stripes in FCA US plants will also not be affected by the change. For now…
