Pastel colors; t-shirts under white jackets with rolled-up sleeves; RayBan Wayfarers; the Miami Vice TV show, which aired from September 1984 until May 1989 was the epitome of the ‘80s. Oh, there was also the Ferrari debacle…

For the first two seasons, undercover cop Sonny Crockett drove a black 365/4 GTB Daytona Spyder, which in reality was a replica based on a Corvette C3. With the show gaining more and more publicity, Ferrari decided that enough was enough and demanded the replica be removed.

The two vice cops didn’t have to drive around in inferior metal as Ferrari North America donated two brand new Testarossas as replacements.

Now, one of them is for sale on eBay. Like its sister car, it arrived painted black but, as TV cameras weren’t so advanced at the time to sufficiently portray the car at night, director and producer Michael Mann decided to paint both of them white.

The car is a 1986 model that, despite its age, has covered only 16,000 miles. It belongs to the first batch of Testarossas, which is recognized for having only a driver’s side exterior mirror, and features a tan interior.

The asking price is a steep US$1.75 million. Then again, it’s a real TV show car, not a replica, comes with all the documentation that verify its provenance and is one of only two in existence. If you’re interested, the same seller also has Michael Mann’s personal Testarossa, a blue 1986 car with cream interior.

You can scroll down for a big gallery and a video showing how Crockett got his Testarossa after the Daytona was (supposedly) destroyed in an earlier episode.
