UK’s National Motor Museum in Beaulieu has received a new exhibit, the 1977 Cadillac Seville that belonged to Elvis Presley.
The vehicle has special significance since it is the last car Elvis Presley bought for his personal use and the last one he drove on the day prior to his death. The King of Rock & Roll bought the Cadillac in October 1976 and chose the burgundy and silver paint scheme himself. The body is custom built by Fisher for Cadillac, while the interior is grey with wood grain accents on the dashboard, doors and steering wheel.
The car is in original condition and still has the CB radio that Elvis used to communicate with the kitchen at Graceland and with the guard house outside the domain, to open the gates. It features electronic windows and mirrors, among other amenities. After his death, the car was gifted by his father, Vernon, to Elvis’s girlfriend, Ginger Alden. It is believed that Elvis purchased more than 200 Cadillacs in his life – for himself, friends, family and even strangers.
Despite being on display in Beaulieu, the car does not belong to the museum. It was bought in August 2014 at Graceland’s first ever auction, with Briton Steve Horn paying $81,250 for it. He gave the Cadillac as a gift to his wife, Suzannah. Big Elvis fans, they later decided to offer the car for display at Beaulieu. “We wanted to give all of Elvis’s UK fans an opportunity to see his car and Beaulieu is the perfect location. We are delighted they could find a space for it,” said Steve Horn.
