Audi has released full details and new photos of the facelifted A1 (three-door) and A1 Sportback (five-door) models.

The revised models borrow the headlights and taillights from the refreshed Audi S1 and feature updated exterior elements like the wider and flatter Singleframe grille and the optional contrasting color for roof line or roof dome.

There are four TFSI and two TDI engines to choose from, with power outputs from 90PS to 192PS, all fitted with a standard start-stop system. There engine lineup includes a 1.4 TFSI COD model which features cylinder deactivation.

But the big news is the addition of three-cylinder engines, marketed under the 1.0 TFSI and 1.4 TDI designations. According to preliminary data, the former returns 4.3 l/100km (54.7 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km, while the later averages 3.4 l/100 km (69.2 mpg US) and emits just 89 g CO2 per km. All engines are mated at standard with six-speed manual transmissions, except the range-topping 1.8 TFSI unit which gets a standard seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission – which is optional for all the other engines.

Inside, the refreshed A1 models get fresh materials and colors as well as clearer controls. There are two trim lines, Sport and Design, as well as numerous packages, colors, upholstery versions, options and kits for further customization. Optional extras include the MMI Navigation Plus and Bose surround sound system, the Audi Connect system which includes an Internet connection for the car phone, as well as Wi-Fi hotspot for mobile devices.

Prices in Germany start from €19,200 for the entry-level three-door A1 1.4 TDI. Upgrading to a five-door A1 Sportback costs a further €850.
