Ford has announced it will auction the first production unit of the new-generation Shelby GT350 Mustang on January 17, 2015 at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona.
All proceeds will benefit JDRF, the country’s leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. Selling at no reserve, the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 will be signed by employees involved in the design and development of the car.
The Shelby GT350 is powered by the first production V8 from Ford with a flat-plane crankshaft, a design typically reserved for racing applications and exotic European sports cars. The 5.2-liter engine produces more than 500 horsepower and a torque peak of more than 400 lb-ft (542 Nm), making it the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The car features a standard Ford-tuned Torsen limited-slip differential designed to optimize cornering grip and straight-line traction and rides on extra-stiff 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The GT350 also features a retuned suspension that features MagneRide, Ford’s first-ever application of continuously controlled MagneRide dampers.
Stopping power is provided by a high-performance braking system consisting of massive 394-mm rotors with Brembo six-piston calipers at the front and 380-mm rotors with four-piston calipers at the rear. No performance figures have been announced yet.
