A heated windscreen in the winter sounds like a great idea that makes the driver’s life much easier and comfortable. Ford has been offering heated windscreens for 26 years, since the technology debuted on the Scorpio.
Standard on all but 11 Ford models sold in Europe, the patented Quickclear system uses a mesh of very thin heating wires embedded between two layers of windscreen glass to provide rapid de-icing and de-fogging. The push-button system clears windscreens in seconds, which is obviously better than spending minutes scraping the ice and waiting for the engine to get to temperature in order to blow warm air onto the windscreen.
Ford Germany has released a funny commercial that shows frustrated drivers doing all sorts of crazy things to de-ice their windscreens, while the driver of a Quickclear-equipped Fiesta ST and his friend roll through the neighborhood listening to Vanilla Ice’s provoking tune “Ice Ice Baby.”
