Volkswagen’s current five-year model cycle means that next year we’ll be seeing a Golf facelift, while two years later, in 2017 an all-new model.
The next-gen car will be better than its predecessor in every single way, says a recent report, not only being more efficient, powerful and faster, but also packed with innovative tech.
Firstly, it will apparently use VW’s new ten-speed automatic gearbox, though according to AutoExpress, it will only see use in the sportier models in the range, like the GTI, GTD and R. It reportedly takes up no more space than the seven-speed unit they already use, and that too will continue to see active duty in models lower down in the range.
We hope (and the report confirms) that the 2.0-liter twin-turbo TDI will make it under the bonnet of the GTD – it makes 240 PS, so does this mean the next-gen GTI will make more than that?
Another topic alluded in the source article are mild hybrids, an idea seen as very promising by a few other manufacturers, as well. Proper hybrids will stay too, and the next e-Golf will build on the current model’s credentials, offering 25 percent more range.
