While the US may have been deprived of all the best performance Hondas of recent years, most of which just stayed in Japan or ended up in Europe, hope may not all be lost.
The next Civic Type-R (pictured) is not coming to the US either, but there’s apparently a chance that its turbocharged engine will, and it won’t power the current Civic Si.
It wasn’t confirmed whether or not the US cars would be badged Type-R, but they need to find something to call this new overtly sporty model. It would obviously sit above the performance level of the Si, but Spain’s Motor y Racing, the source of this newfound information, says it won’t use the same body style.
Could Honda actually be bringing a different Type-R model to US shores? It would certainly make sense, as it would go head to head with the Ford Focus ST (and future RS), as well as VW’s Golf GTI and R.
