For the second time in a few weeks, Fiat Group engineers have us scratching our heads with their Maserati Ghibli-based test mules.
In mid-November, it was a Ghibli prototype on stilts, which we think is a test bed for the upcoming Levante SUV. With this scoop, we’re not sure what model is being evaluated under the modified sheetmetal of Maserati’s sedan.
From the profile shots, it’s obvious that Fiat Group engineers have shortened the wheelbase and reduced the length of the rear doors, so they’ve evidently reworked the platform for a smaller sized vehicle.
What model that could be, is a good question, but one that we cannot answer definitively.
If we look at the Fiat Group’s product plan, we can pick a few candidates from Maserati and Alfa Romeo, including the Maserati Alfieri coupe in 2016, a “specialty” Alfa Romeo sports car that could be related in 2016-2018, and Alfa’s BMW 3-Series rivaling sedan that may or may not be called Giulia and may or may not arrive in 2015.
