Dirk Schulz is not your average BMW customer – he was one of the first to get a Z1 roadster and the very first owner of an i8 plug-in hybrid sports car.

In 2010 he was seduced by BMW’s Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics that previewed the i8 and decided to option the car at a dealership, although at the time it wasn’t known whether it would be produced. Technical data or price information weren’t available either.

However, rumors about a production version began to gain traction, and Dirk hoped the car would get a 10-cylinder engine. Obviously that didn’t happen, as the BMW i8 combines a twin-turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor for an output of 362PS (357hp). He wasn’t disappointed though and says he is proud to own a very special car.
