As a Mitsubishi USA executive said in a report a month ago, Mitsubishi will say goodbye to the Lancer Evo X with a special edition model that will bring performance and styling upgrades. Scheduled to be unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon (January 9-11), the last model based on the Evolution X is called Final Concept and is based on the GSR variant.
The car benefits from a series of styling upgrades including a matte black paint, gloss finish on parts such as the roof and rear spoiler and a chrome finish on the grille.
But the most interesting updates are beneath the skin, as the Evo X Final Concept gets a significant engine upgrade including a turbocharger by HKS, new intake, exhaust, cooling system and a new ECU, all of which help the 2.0-liter engine produce 473hp (480PS). Power is sent to all wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Other performance upgrades include a HKS height adjustable sport suspension and forged aluminum wheels by RAYS, shod with 19-inch Yokohama Advan Neovas tyres.
We’re not sure whether the limited production model will be identical with the Final Concept, but we hope Mitsubishi will offer the same performance package when the special series version reaches US shores in summer 2015.
As a reminder, the standard 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine producing 291hp at 6,500 rpm and 300 lb-ft (406 Nm) of torque from 4,000 rpm.
