The Alpina D4 Biturbo is the closest thing to a diesel-powered BMW M4 one could get.

Featuring a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six diesel engine, the Alpina D4 Biturbo has 345hp and 516lb-ft (700Nm) of torque, available between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm. While the D4 Biturbo has an 80hp power deficit compared to the M4, it has 110lb-ft (150Nm) more torque.

That explains why the D4 Biturbo is just half a second slower from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) than the M4 Coupe, covering the sprint in 4.6 seconds.

As the owner of an Alpina D3, Autocar’s Steven Sutcliffe was curious to see how different the D4 Biturbo is to drive. Despite sharing the same platform and powertrain with the D3, he found the D4 quite different, but in a good way. He even went as far as to say the D4 Biturbo is a better car than the M4 Coupe for “about 342 days of the year.” You can find out why from the video review posted below.
