The new Corvette C7 will set the tone for the styling of future Chevrolets, according to GM’s global boss of design, Ed Welburn. He said we’ll get to see this manifest as early as next year, when the new Malibu, Volt and Cruze hit the scene.
One important cue will be the hood. It will mirror that of the Corvette in being “taut, very lean, very sporty,” Welburn noted. The headlights will feature Corvette inspiration too, although we didn’t really see it when the one on the new Volt was shown (pictured).
This means the manufacturer’s entire range will head towards a sportier image and more visual ties with the Corvette. That’s not bad by any means, but it may look a bit awkward on the firm’s smaller, cheaper and less exciting offerings.
It’s not bad news by any means, but we hope they don’t overdo it thereby taking away from the Corvette’s uniqueness factor – with a balanced approach this can definitely work in Chevy’s favor.
