Fans of Ford performance vehicles will be thrilled to learn that the Blue Oval will introduce the redesigned F-150 SVT Raptor pickup truck and Focus RS (super) hot hatch at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
It’s not an official information, but sources from within the company told Edmunds that it’s going to happen. And that’s not all – apparently the Focus RS will be all-wheel drive! It’s not yet clear whether it will have a FWD variant as well.
As for the new four-wheel drive, off-road SVT Raptor, it is based on the all-new aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150. Competing with high-end versions of the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra, the F-150 SVT Raptor has increased off-road capabilities thanks to its AWD system, high ground clearance and powerful engine.
It is not clear yet when the SVT Raptor or Focus RS will go on sale in the U.S. or whether the models will debut as 2015 or 2016 vehicles. “We have not announced timing for Raptor, but the cadence is reasonably close to the base vehicle. I want to get it out as quickly as we can,” Raj Nair, Ford’s group vice president and chief technical officer, told Edmunds when asked about a sales date. Production of the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 started in November.
The current SVT Raptor (pictured) has been a sales hit since its debut for the 2010 model year. Starting at $46,190, including a $1,195 destination charge, it is also a big money maker for Ford.
