While currently on life support with production halted, Saab isn’t exuding any kind of optimism right now. The automaker hasn’t made any cars bar those 9-3 prototypes, yet in New Jersey you can still go into a dealership and buy a (relatively) new one.
Park Ave Saab aims to keep the name alive and is currently offering a healthy selection of low-mileage models. They not only sell cars but also store all manner of parts, which will definitely be an important part of their business as the New York – New Jersey – Pennsylvania area is home to some 10,000 Saab owners (~450,000 still on the road throughout the US).
According to AutoNews, the dealership sells between 30 to 50 (post-2008) cars every month, and its two technicians rack up around 600 – 700 hours over the same time span.
It’s going pretty well because it seems Saab owners are loyal people. According to the general manager of the store, Jeremy Morrissey, “the Saab customer is very interesting… They’d rather pay top dollar for a used 2011 than buy a new 2014 Volvo.”
Even so, Morrissey says he expects his business to decline and predicts that he can still keep things up the current level for another 1 – 2 years; “then you have to figure something else out,” he said.
