The Tesla Model S is a phenomenon in terms of sales in Norway, but now some owners are reporting malfunctions that have to do with the engine/gearbox combo.
Apparently, some 1,100 cars are affected, but should be fixed within one month as Tesla is sending 300 replacement units per week into the country and service center crews are working overtime too.
The faulty part is a coupling that connects the motor to the gearbox and apparently did not receive enough grease when it was being put together. This puts extra strain on it which leads to premature wear and could lead to failure.
However, this will probably do little to shake Norwegians’ confidence in Tesla, especially if it’s resolved in a timely fashion, as they’ve been snapping them up much faster (per capita) than any other country in the world. This is in part due to the great incentives offered by their government, as well as the good charging infrastructure and people’s openness to try the new tech.
If you’re wondering how the Tesla motors work and how they’re put together, we added a video to the end of this post that details its assembly process.
