For an obscure brand that was on the brink of extinction when VW brought a 30% stake in 1991 before fully acquiring it in 2000, Skoda is doing pretty well.
In fact, after recording its best November ever with 90,200 units (+10.1 percent over the same month in 2013) and reaching 955,300 deliveries from the beginning of the year, Skoda officials have no doubt that the company will break\the 1 million mark for the first time in its history.
“ŠKODA will set a new sales record this year. Following the positive results in November, the milestone of one million vehicles produced and sold in one calendar year is certain,” said the brand’s CEO, Winfried Vahland. “Producing and selling one million ŠKODA cars for the first time in one year is a milestone for our brand, and has made the whole team very proud.”
China has been a strong driver of growth for Skoda with sales increasing 46.9 percent to 26,800 vehicles in November 2014. In the first 11 months of the year, Skoda has sold 250,600 vehicles in China, with the new Octavia that was launched during the summer seeing its sales soar +112.4 percent in November.
