Rumors of SsangYong’s US market entry ambitions are not new, but now that the Mahindra-owned brand has reportedly filed trademark requests for two names, it seems even closer.
The names it plans to use in the US are Luvent and Tivoli, with the latter being the name of an already revealed model (pictured in close-to-production concept form). It’s a compact crossover with a front-wheel drive base version and engines no bigger than a 1.6-liter.
Apparently, the model was designed not only for SsangYong’s usual markets (Central America, Eastern Europe, Africa, China and India), but it also reportedly complies with US crash and emissions requirements.
However, the source is keen to point out that this trademark filing doesn’t guarantee SsangYong a place in the US. In fact, the automaker previously registered its Rexton, Korando, Chairman, Actyon and Musso vehicles but never brought them over…
