Shift paddles in a Bentley Mulsanne? What has this world come to, I ask thee. Next thing we know, they’ll be replacing all that burr or walnut veneer with, I don’t know, carbon fiber inserts and drilled pedals.
Indeed they have. You can’t blame them, too, because this isn’t just any Bentley but the Mulsanne Speed, the über-luxury saloon that’s meant to be enjoyed from the driver’s, rather than the rear, seat.
That’s what the company says anyway because we can’t imagine anyone wanting to throw around a 2.7-ton steel, leather, carbon and what have-you Mulsanne.
On the other hand, it’s tempting to see if all the promises of a firmer suspension, recalibrated 8-speed ZF auto transmission and sharpened steering detract in any way from a true Bentley’s character or if they’ve actually good enough to make good use of the 530hp, 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8.
