We’ve had our eye on The Crew for a while now. It’s an arcade-open world racing game with an emphasis on sheer fun and the size of the map. It recently released for next-gen consoles, PC and PlayStation 3, and it left those who tried it out with mixed emotions.
The main plus point is the huge map, which takes some 40 minutes to cross from coast to coast; it’s a compressed version of the US dotted with landmarks and recognizable elements. Some have complained that it’s not up there in terms of quality with some other games, but then again these games can’t match it for scale.
It’s reportedly a lot of fun to race around, even if the car physics are not the greatest, nor is the actual diversity of cars.
You really have to be able to overlook several obvious negatives, although I think the cliché story kind of works with it. The game doesn’t really take itself too seriously, and the B-movie story bodes well in that respect.
Scroll down and check out the reviews. There’s fewer than usual when we do this type of review roundup pieces, since the publisher didn’t provide press copies beforehand, and everybody got their hands on the game when it hit store shelves – they’re still playing it so some reviews are comprised of several parts and/or are still in progress.
