The 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost with its 310 HP and 433 Nm (320 lb-ft) of torque always sounded impressive on paper. However, according to training materials discovered by Mustang6G, those figures correspond only to the usage of premium unleaded 93 octane gasoline.

What this means for you if you’d rather pump regular 87 octane fuel, is an 11.3% loss in power (35 fewer HP) and a 20 lb-ft peak torque loss. Or about 6.25%. Visiting the forums, it’s more than apparent that Mustang owners who have used 93 octane gas have experienced noticeable improvement in real world performance.

The question is, how big of a hit to Ford’s image should we consider this to be? Well, it’s pretty significant, because going from 310 HP to 275 HP basically means you’re not driving what you paid for.

But as long as you fuel your car with premium 93 octane gas, you should be able to squeeze all of the performance you need out of your 2.3 liter turbocharged EcoBoost Mustang.
