The 1956 Chevrolet Corvette SR2 has a cool little story behind its creation. It was designed as a racing car, basically, to compete against the Ferraris of the time, and it also served as the test bed for various technologies like fuel injection among others.
The car is driven and explained in the ElectricFederal video posted below which goes into the car’s history and highlights the reasons of its inception. It was actually GM’s that nudged it into existence, since the automaker wanted something to compete with Ferraris on track.
Now, more than fifty years later, we can still appreciate its unique shape and historic value, plus it’s also not terrible to drive fast… for a vintage race car. What’s cool is that while it is clearly very different to the road going Corvette of the time, you can still see that it is in fact based on one of those.
Correction: It’s a 1956 not a 1952 model
