Having the power of two motors and all-wheel drive will surely drastically change the appeal of the Tesla Model S for buyers in the more northern US states. You don’t even have to be that far north these days to get heavy snow, so AWD is very desirable wherever the car is sold.
The video below is a demonstration (posted by CEO Elon Musk on his Twitter account) of how it has no trouble at all going up what appears to be a slight (snowy) incline. It passes a few vehicles flashing their hazards (probably meaning they’re stuck) and just wafts on by.
We wonder what it’s capable of doing with its traction and stability control systems turned off, on a smooth frozen lake. Should prove quite spectacular and let’s hope somebody figures it out that a video of the P85D doing fast donuts on ice would go instantly viral (probably).
In other news, Musk announced that an upcoming software update aimed at the P85D will cut its acceleration time by .1 seconds – not that it had any problems launching the way it first came out…
