Being a Formula 1 driver entails more than just getting out on the track and racing or testing. One of the things on your to-do list is promoting the team and its products as well as the sponsors.
Fernando Alonso was driving a Ferrari FF while he was at the Scuderia. Now that he’s left for McLaren, one would expect his everyday steed to be one of Woking’s supercars, most likely a 650S.
Yet the two-time F1 world champion had already said that one of the reasons he picked the team was the fact that Honda came back to F1 this year as an engine supplier to McLaren, rekindling their extremely successful 1988 to 1992 partnership.
Perhaps it is his idol, the late Ayrton Senna, having close ties to Honda and giving feedback on the development of the original NSX, but the Spaniard tweeted two pictures of the brand-new hybrid NSX that was just unveiled at the North American International Motor Show, commenting that “one day we will be together”.
Now that Honda finally released the production version of its supercar, it probably won’t be too difficult for Alonso to get one. McLaren probably won’t object but, even if it does, no one ever said that he can’t have two or more company cars.
