Created last year with the merger of Fiat SpA with Chrysler, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) plans to introduce a startling 20 new models until the end of 2016 to boost sales and profits.

At least that’s what FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a presentation made to investors at the Bank am Bellevue seminar in Switzerland, according to a Detroit News report.

The €48 billion (US$55.5 billion) investment made in the group’s brands “increases to a peak in 2016 to support the heavy cadence of the new and refresh product program”, commented Marchionne at his speech. Although he did not talk about specific models, those will include two new Alfa Romeos and the production version of the Maserati Alfieri coupe.

The ambitious investment program is meant to increase sales by 60 percent until 2018 and transform the group to a VW, GM and Toyota rival. Marchionne forecast that he has a “positive industry outlook” in all regions next year. Thus, he wants to make the group’s brands attract customers “from Beijing to Berlin to Moscow”.
