Not only is the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor going to be substantially lighter than the old model, it’s also going to be more powerful with a smaller engine.
When Ford launched the new Raptor earlier this month at the Detroit Auto Show, it said it would feature a version of its 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 rather than the old 6.2-liter V8. But in an interview with Fox Sports, Ford Global Product Development Vice President Raj Nair said the Ecoboost would produce 450 horsepower in the truck. A pretty sizable jump for an engine with two fewer cylinders and a truck that may have shed up to 500 lbs.
The new Raptor goes on sale in fall 2016, also sporting a new 10-speed automatic. Having seen it in the metal (aluminum, actually), it’s a good-looking piece. And with even more power than before, it should be fun, too.
