According to all of the positive reviews of the latest incarnation of the Boxster, Porsche really seems to be onto a winner. It and the Cayman are the darlings of pretty much all auto journos, some of which have always said the manufacturer is holding it back so as not to step on the toes of the bigger 911.
Porsche has made hotter versions of both it and the hardtop Cayman, but they are apparently going to make even hotter ones. For the Cayman, that’s said to be the upcoming GT4 variant, a motorsport division-developed model with around 400 hp.
The hot Boxster, on the other hand, will not come out of the hand of the firm’s motorsport division, like the GT3 and GT3 RS, and according to Autocar it won’t have any more power than the 335 hp GTS.
Performance will be improved, obviously, but it will come courtesy of less weight, even sharper handling and other fine tweaks.
Basically, the Cayman GT4 will be the proper hardcore machine, whereas the Boxster will feature a different approach with less in your face styling than the GT4 (and also less performance).
It’s expected to go on sale in 2016, after the Q2 reveal of the facelifted current-gen Boxster.
