Infiniti was supposed to turn the LE concept into a production car in 2015, but plans for the model have now been halted. The company is apparently going to concentrate on more mainstream models first, before it tries to sell a niche all-electric vehicle.
USA Today quotes Infiniti VP, Michael Bartsch, who said “we have to be a little pragmatic,” meaning stuff like the Q60 coupe gets attention first, as it’s a much more important model.
Another aspect that caused for the decision to be made was the desire to wait for better battery tech to become accessible. It would definitely not be well thought of if it were to be launched with a quoted range similar to that of the smaller Leaf, that’s for sure.
The source report suggest that if parent company Nissan would be able to get twice the capacity that the Leaf’s battery pack has, the prospect of an Infiniti EV would become much more practical.
