There are going to bits of future Jaguars’ interiors that will vibrate in order to warn the driver of possible hazardous situations. In a short promo video, the manufacturer shows off what its Bike Sense tech can do – it basically keeps the driver from running over or opening a door in front of a bicyclist.

Vibration feedback is used for the accelerator pedal, which works when you’re trying to set off yet the car senses an impending pedestrian/bike – it basically tells you to wait for a few more seconds.

The door handle gets the vibration treatment too, and it does its thing when you touch it and the car senses a bicyclist pedaling up behind and about to pass. Oh and the top part of the seatback does it too, on whichever side the cyclist is on.

It’s pretty neat stuff and it really could help cull bike-car accidents in the future. What would be even more useful, though, would be for the system to also be calibrated to spot mopeds, scooters and fast-approaching motorcycles too.
