Designers working for independent Chinese automaker Jiangling are apparently big fans of the VW Amarok. It turns out they appreciate the German pickup truck’s styling so much that they decided to use it as well. After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
Going on sale soon in China, the Jiangling T7 is an accurate replica of the VW Amarok, at least as far as the exterior is concerned. That’s because the interior appears to be the only part of the car in which designers actually put some work, as the cabin is quite different from the Amarok.
The Jiangling T7 will be offered with two engine options: an Isuzu-sourced, 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel producing 100 hp and a 2.2-liter petrol unit with 110 hp. Both will be offered with a standard six-speed manual transmission.
Jiangling Motors Corporation sells passenger cars as part of a joint venture with Chang’an Automobile Group, the automaker which produces the infamous Landwind X7 Range Rover Evoque clone.
