Ever since Porsche’s Chief of engineering, Wolfgang Hatz confirmed that turbo engines could be the solution for the brand’s sub-GT3 models, we’ve been wondering just how far down into the range they would implement them.
Hatz has already said that we’ll be seeing turbocharged flat-four engines in both the facelifted Boxster and the Cayman, which means 2016 or 2017, adding that they are “working hard on it”. Porsche is very committed to reducing CO2 emissions by at least 15%, which means that turbochargers could make their way throughout their entire range.
We know that the top models will stick to good old naturally aspirated flat six engines, but anything under a GT or a GTS could be going turbo without ever looking back.
In the case of the smaller and more agile Boxster and Cayman models, a likely candidate could indeed be a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, producing somewhere around the 330-340 HP mark of these cars’ GTS versions. On paper, this should offer a clear increase in performance.
It was only a matter of time, we suppose.
