Volvo limited the availability of the S60 and V60 Polestar models simply because it wasn’t sure they’d be a sales hit and didn’t want to overburden the dealers. Well, now that all 750 of them have been spoken for (quicker than anticipated), the Swedish automaker has announced a fresh batch planned for this year.
The formula will be left virtually untouched, according to Lex Kerssemakers, senior VP of product planning and vehicle line management, who admits that it was a mistake to only have 750 examples made.
In regards to Polestar and its continued collaboration with Volvo, Kerssmakers said “they take care of our racing program, we have the same philosophy, so I see in the future an increased cooperation with Polestar. For our part, we’d love to see what Polestar can do with Volvo’s experimental ‘triple-boost’ Drive-E engine, which already is said to produce 450 horsepower.”
The exec also confirmed that they are looking into additional models as well as something even hotter; “there is obviously room for a higher-horsepower car in the higher-up segments,” he said.
