The first generation Passat CC has been a huge success story for Volkswagen. It was the first non-premium 4 door coupe in the world and it always felt great to drive and more expensive than it really was.

The second generation car is still a few years away and according to Auto Motor und Sport, it’ll be here in 2017. However we might get a sneak preview of its sleek body sooner than we would have anticipated, at this years’ Geneva Motor Show in March.

AMS is reporting that VW plans to bring a concept to Geneva that previews the 2017 production CC – if true, it will probably be more of a design exercise than a genuine prototype of the car. The German magazine is also saying that the production model could have a 5-door body which would make it more similar to the Audi A7 rather than say, the Mercedes-Benz CLS.

The car will ride on the same MQB platform as the Passat but at the same time it will have grown in length as well as overall rigidity, which should make it feel sportier.

Currently, there’s a small price gap between the VW CC and the Audi A5 which could be considered its closest rival from the premium segment, so it’ll be fun to see if come 2017, VW is going to steal some Audi A5 Sportback customers.
