If you’re still happy while cruising around in your 2011 through 2013 VW, Audi or Porsche, you may want to brace yourself for a pesky yet necessary trip to the dealer in order to replace your fuel injector rails.
Luckily the recall isn’t directed at all models, but if you’re driving a 2012 VW Touareg Hybrid, 2011-2012 Audi S4/S5, 2012 Audi Q7, 2012 Audi A6, 2012-2013 Audi A7 or 2011-2012 Porsche Cayenne and Panamera S hybrids, it would be best if you got your car checked out ASAP.
The main concern is that a fuel leak in the injection system in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of fire. And there have already been customers complaining about fuel odor back in 2013, according to NHTSA documents.
It seems that about 80,000 Audis are being recalled worldwide (two-thirds in the US and China), with only a few hundred VW cars involved because in their case it only involves one model (Touareg Hybrid).
As for Porsche, they’re set to recall about 13,500 cars worldwide.
Once the owners are notified, dealers will begin replacing the fuel injector rails and corresponding seals for free, starting with March 10, 2015.
