When the all-new 2016 Acura NSX arrives in US showrooms later this year, it will offer a wide scope of individual options and equipment packages. More specifically, Acura says the NSX will be the most customizable model it has ever made.
“The car will offer more factory-installed options than any other vehicle that we have ever had. Today the supercar customer wants to personalize it, wants to make it ‘mine,’” Mike Accavitti, senior vice president and general manager of Acura, told Edmunds.
While the executive did not elaborate on the options that will be available, he said some customers might go for carbon fiber materials versus aluminum, while others may choose features designed specifically for the track.
Buyers will get a clear idea of the ways to customize the NSX when Acura launches the online configurator for the car this summer. The website will also allow customers that have configured an NSX to place an order at a dealership.
Acura also announced it will train dealer sales personnel specifically for the NSX, because of the high-tech nature of the car and its long list of options. “We will have sales-training classes, expose them to the car, talk to them about the competition, talk to them about options so that they can engage with the customer and have a good conversation,” Accavitti said.
As for how many of Acura’s 273 dealers will get the NSX, the executive said it’s too early to say, as not all requirements have been determined. However, dealers will need to spend some money to qualify for the NSX, as there will be special tools and possibly a special hoist to lift the car.
