Here are some (allegedly) official patent drawings of the next generation MINI Convertible, which to the surprise of no one, looks exactly like the hatch with a fabric instead of a metal top.
Other than that, the new Convertible will be a four-seater model borrowing its engine lineup from the 3- and 5-door versions of the UKL1 platform-based Hatch meaning 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline units and 1.5-liter diesels.
The most interesting version of the soft top model will be the John Cooper Works edition that our spies recently nabbed undergoing winter testing in Europe. It will use a force-fed 2.0-liter inline four rated for 228hp (231PS) and 236lb-ft (320Nm) of torque paired to either a 6sp manual or 6sp automatic driving the front axle.
