All-New Mitsubishi L200 Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show

This is the all-new Mitsubishi L200 and it’s going to debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month. If you find it familiar, you’re right – it’s the same car as the Mitsubishi Triton unveiled in late 2014 in Thailand.

In Europe it will continue to carry the L200 name, and it will arrive nine years after the current L200, which sold 1.3 million units.

The fifth-generation Mitsubishi L200 has been developed as a “Sport Utility Truck,” according to the automaker, which promises “new heights of reliability, toughness, interior comfort and maneuverability.”

As the Triton, the new L200 is powered by a 2.4-liter MIVEC turbo diesel that is offered in two states of tune. The base version produces 154PS (152hp) and 380Nm (280lb-ft) of torque, while the more powerful model produces 181PS (178hp) and 430Nm (317lb-ft) of torque.

Mated to an all-new six-speed manual transmission, the all-new engine is said to bring a 17 percent improvement in CO2 emissions, to a minimum of 169 g/km. The L200 is equipped with the Super Select 4WD II system which features full-time WD, low gear and four driving modes.

The L200’s new exterior design is not only different, it contributes to a lower aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.40 and increased fuel efficiency. Mitsubishi says the new L200 also offers a smoother ride for passengers, with perceived quality in the cabin also improving.

As we’re talking about a pickup truck, Mitsubishi says the L200’s chassis frame has 7 percent higher torsional rigidity to endure challenging conditions under which these vehicles must operate.

New standard and optional features compared to the previous generation include rear doors on the Club Cab version, keyless operation system with engine stop/start switch, cruise control with adaptive speed limiter, dual temperature automatic air conditioning, steering column-mounted paddle shifters, reach and rake adjustment of the steering wheel, rear view camera and a Digital Audio Broadcasting radio system.

Built in Thailand, the all-new Mitsubishi L200 will be launched in Europe during the summer of 2015, in both Club Cab and Double Cab body styles.
