Whenever something like this happens, you’re always left thinking “Well of course they did it in a Nissan GT-R“. It’s the perfect car for this sort of aftermarket trickery.
Another very popular car that people tend to spice up in order to go to events such as this one, is the Lamborghini Gallardo. In fact, you can call it a rivalry. Underground Racing vs. AMS Performance. These guys help make some of the fastest land traveling machines the world has ever seen out of what are already some really fast accelerating all-wheel drive supercars.
So then courtesy of AMS, the Alpha Omega GT-R came, saw and conquered the WannaGoFast 1/2 Florida Shootout, hitting a real 224 MPH (360 km/h) through the half mile speed trap.
The runway’s asphalt surface had a bit of dust on it which made it even harder for the cars to get good traction. Still, a world record standing 1/2 mile pass of 224.91 mph is an absolutely terrific result.
You may not notice it while looking at the video, but apparently after checking out the logs, the Alpha Omega was over-spinning its tires the entire 1/2 mile. Because the traction control system in the GT-R uses wheel speeds in order to calculate power delivery, the Omega did a full burnout at about 210 mph (338 km/h). That’s amazing!
We’re glad the event was a success and we’re still in awe of what you can do with the likes of Godzilla when you show it an empty patch of runway.
