The much discussed Rolls Royce SUV has been on and off the table more times than we can count, but now it seems to be back in company executives’ sights. That’s because there’s great demand for one, according to CarAdvice which sat down with RR’s head of communications for North America, Gerry Spahn.
He said “it’s not something we are adverse too, or something that is against the brand. We have to have enough demand from owners and then we have to have the right design.”
“I have owners yelling at me,” he added, but admitted that they’re wary of doing it as they may get the design wrong – that seems to be the main concern, and it was something that plagued Bentley too in its quest to create a good-looking SUV that doesn’t dilute the brand.
“We are looking at designs right now, right now we might do it, we might not do it. We will make a decision on that this year, either to take some action or go in a different direction,” he concluded.
It seems that the luxury brand won’t make an SUV in the classic sense, when/if it chooses to do so. The vehicle they’ll be selling will be “an all-wheel drive that meets active lifestyle demands that is designed and feels and drives and rides and makes people feel like you’re in a Rolls Royce,” according to Spahn.
The decision is to be made before the end of this year.
