Lamborghini is probably the automaker that produces the most radical-looking supercars in the world, but that may change at some point in the future.
If you’re curious about the brand’s future design direction, you should look no further than the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 concept, unveiled at the Paris Auto Show last year. The study steps away from the angular and aggressive forms of recent cars by borrowing more elegant lines from renowned Lamborghinis of the past, which is something designers would like to experiment with production cars as well.
“We need to understand if we can open another window in our future to be not so extreme but also a little bit more politically correct and elegant,” Lamborghini design boss Filippo Perini told AutoNews Europe.
I have to say I never imagined the day would come when I would read the words “politically correct” and Lamborghini in the same sentence. But let’s not hasten to conclusions. No decision has been taken yet, and Lamborghini will continue to build extreme supercars for the foreseeable future.
Perini stressed that while the Asterion’s design language is atypical, it does not signal a radical change to Lamborghini’s styling identity. “We will continue to produce really extreme supercars, but our goal is to understand if the Asterion’s design language will be appreciated by a different kind of customer,” Lamborghini’s head designer said.
