Audi is said to be mulling making an RS version of its new Q7 SUV. However, with no such models to precede it, there’s little we can relate to in order to speculate in regards to its possible specifications.
TopGear says the model was confirmed by an insider source who also suggested the RS Q7 might come with a diesel engine. The insider was quoted as saying “the question is what the better engine would be for a car like this. Would it be a diesel or an FSI [petrol]? Perhaps a diesel, but maybe not a V12 because it’s too heavy.”
So it’ll be a V8 diesel – it needs a good poster vehicle for its TDI tech, and an RS Q7 would suffice, especially since the company never made a diesel version of its R8…
Audi’s 4.2-liter V8 diesel currently makes 380 hp and 850 Nm, although more could probably be extracted out of it, especially with the use of an electric booster – see what difference that makes to Audi’s V6 TDI unit equipping an RS5.
As for when to expect the vehicle, well, the source doesn’t say, but we are assured that it is indeed “happening.”
