There’s a strong chance that, if not the upcoming F30 facelift, BMW‘s next generation 3-Series will offer a similar multifunction digital instrument display, just like the 5-, 6-, and 7-Series models.
Until that happens, two separate owners of 3-Series models have managed to swap their stock instrument panels with what looks to be the F10 5-Series’ optional digital instrument gauge cluster.
According to the Bimmerpost forums, one of them is from Taiwan, while Drive2 says the second person is from Russia. We don’t know if it’s the same one, but a forum member said that Turner Motorsports offers the customizable digital display ‘Part Number 62109363263’ for $2,085.
Having owned and worked on a few BMWs, I can say that messing around with these cars’ electronics (even when attempting stock fixes, let alone DIY experimentations) is a “Proceed at your own risk” type of situation that can end up costing you an arm and a leg down the road. Don’t say you haven’t been warned…
