BMW has just unveiled its bespoke M4 MotoGP (pace/safety) car that not only features flashy lights and a cool M livery, but also some new engine tech. It’s nothing revolutionary, a water injection to cool the high-speed air going into the intake side of the engine, but on a high performance turbo car its benefit is noticeable.

The automaker says its purpose is to “to increase the performance and reduce the consumption of combustion engines.”

However, it’s not clear if only the MotoGP car is getting the system or whether it will be made available on street models as well. All the automaker says is “in the near future, BMW M Division will begin production of a model featuring water injection;” we presume they’re not talking about the M3/M4 duo.

If you want to see how it works, do check out the official animation that details it. It’s posted in video form after the virtual jump, along with a photo gallery too.
