The BMW Group has already patched up a problem in BMWs that could’ve allowed hackers to unlock the vehicles, after a German group revealed the security flaw.

The cars affected were an estimated 2.2 million models from BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce with the ConnectedDrive features, made between 2010 and 2014. But BMW has already issued a fix for the fault, and it is implemented as soon as the car connects with the server.

In its test, the ADAC was able to hack into the remote unlock feature of ConnectedDrive through the mobile app. The group said the hack could be performed within minutes and leave no trace.

BMW told Bloomberg that the problem wouldn’t have let anyone drive off with the car, but that it “highlights risks associated with the increase in digital services in cars.”
