Not only will the long-discussed Cadillac CT6 be showing its full face next month, but GM’s luxury brand will also benefit from a range of new engines.
In a Q&A session Monday with Jalopnik and its readers, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen confirmed the March 31 debut of the CT6 (the one we saw a teaser Sunday in Cadillac’s new ads) would also include a raft of new engine news.
We have an entirely new family of V6 engines coming soon, premiering in CT6. We will release technical details of this next month.
Furthermore, de Nysschen told Jalopnik a new twin-turbo V8 engine is being developed for Cadillac.
We are carefully planning the life cycle of CT6, and this must include some high-power derivatives as well. The lightweight body structure allows us to achieve formidable performance even with a twin-turbo V-6. Imagine how this car would perform with a twin-turbo V-8. Have patience, grasshopper.
Consider that confirmation a CT6-V is very much in the cards, too. Just not at this particular auto show debut.
The V6 family, however, is big news. While de Nysschen said a 2.0T would be offered in the CT6 (likely the 272-horse unit from the ATS and base CTS), V6s could very well be this car’s mainstream engines. A new range of them is a significant sign Cadillac will be phasing out the current 3.6-liter V6 from its lineup, the High Feature engine that’s basically been around since the 2004 CTS.
The CT6 and the powertrain investments are the next steps in de Nysschen’s charge to solidify Cadillac as a member of the luxury car segment and lift its sales. While improving the image of the brand has been much of the talk lately, new product is welcome news.
We expect to know much more in April at the New York Auto Show.
