Richard Meaden of EVO gets to drive another Audi racer, this time it’s the R8 LMS Ultra of the GT3 Class.
This particular car is no other from the last winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring where Meaden himself participated at the wheel of an Aston Martin Vantage N430. Meaden recalls the speed of this particular R8 back then. “I think I’ve probably spent most of my time on the 24Hour race getting out of the way of this thing” he says while smiling behind its wheel.
He also noted how similar the R8 LMS feels to the road car, finding it reassuring although it corners, brakes and accelerates significantly better.
We are not far away from the moment Audi’s R8 says goodbye and leave its place to its successor. Audi’s first supercar gained universal appraise for its styling and handling characteristics. For many it signaled the beginning of an era where a Porsche 911 was no longer the king and gave Audi some proper kudos for their ability to build such a complete sports car in the first try. We have to wait and see what the second one will be like.
